How I Turn Doodles and Murals into Pattern Play Cards
Hi ,
After Volume 1 was out in the wild, I kept going –
developing more Easy Pattern Play sets with new ideas I was excited to try.
Things like:
✨ Netting Pattern Play – a fun addition to the Bling stage, like a patterned net inside a circle that adds great visual texture, and
✨ Window Pattern Play – imagine circling a part of the artwork that catches your eye, then decorating around it to highlight that
area
And I had lots more patterns – including a few that didn’t quite fit into my usual sets of five – so Volume 2 was born. Another 48 cards, formatted the same way. (And yes – there are unique patterns here that haven’t made it into the Easy Pattern Play Pages yet!)
These patterns
are all based on real marks made in collaborative murals, group paintings, and even my doodle-based play sessions. Every one is hand-drawn and designed to be inclusive, adaptable, and fun.
Here’s how I make them:
🖌 I pull inspiration from past artworks, patterns people have actually added to group canvases, things I’ve seen on shows, my own doodles, and just ideas that
pop into my head.
🖌 I paint them using black paint and a small round brush, then photograph and edit them to boost contrast.
🖌 I deliberately don’t clean them up too much – that slight wobbliness? That’s the magic. It tells people: You can do this too.
Perfection has no place in this kind of slow, joyful art.
