Beginner's Guide Check-In
Hi ,
Well, my three days in hospital stretched into another nine! After my third
paralytic ileus this year, I finally convinced them that high-fibre hospital food and I just don’t get along. I’m home again now, happily sticking with eggs, meat, and fat. My hip replacement went well, and I’m now doing daily rehab exercises.
Between those exercises and painting projects (oil painting and Pattern
Play, which is also part of developing new resources for you), I’m making this three-month recovery a fun and creative time.
How’s your first collaborative art project going?
Whether you're deep into painting layers or still gathering supplies - I'd love to hear! Hit reply and let me know - send a pic so I
can cheer you on! 🎉
Tip time! Feeling stuck? Try this:
👉 Pick three colours plus white and start layering dots, arches, and fronds. You can use the Your First Patterns Page in your guide for inspiration — then mix things up by adding dots with your favourite nail polish (perfect for
the BLING! stage). It’s a fun mixed-media idea: kids love holding the little pot in one hand and painting with the other, and teens enjoy the different way of using it. I just find it fun making the shiny dots!
Notice the dark blue nail polish dots on Ethereal Forest below. The green dots are also nail
polish, while the teal ones are stick-ons that just look like wet paint!
